Assistant Editor - ESPN Action Sports (Link This Post) (Jobs )
ESPN Action Sports is looking for a contract Assistant Editor with 2-plus years experience to work under the General Editors, Editor and Director, assisting in all aspects of site production.

Responsibilities include:

•	Action sports experience: a participant with a deep working knowledge of action sports athletes, history, tricks, companies and PR. Yep, you need to be down – and you need to know if neck tats fall within that category.

•	Ownership of overall site QA and daily publishing needs: On a daily basis, this person will be responsible for building and publishing content packages according to the ESPN.com style guide, QA’ing sport index pages and blogs, bug testing story pages and links for currency, glitches and style, maintaining cross-linkage and other navigational elements between groups, search engine optimization and assisting in monitoring and publishing breaking action sports news as it happens.

•	Editorial oversight, news judgment and strong grammar/punctuation skills; a pragmatist who uses spell check: In addition to editing blog entries, photo galleries and features (where additional reportage and research may often be required), this person may be asked to write the occasional photo caption, headline, subhead or other promotional copy for the site and is expected to maintain the overall tone, voice and style consistent with the standards of the site.

•	Daily content production via ESPN’s content management system on a managed machine: This person will crop, color correct and optimize photos for web usage around various parts of the site. They will build blog entries, story pages with applicable relevant content, photo galleries and top story packages. They will have a keen eye for photography and webpage layout. 

•	Assistance in the workflow of X Games remote production events: an extension of what you’ll be doing on a day-to-day basis, but under tighter deadlines and in a higher-pressure environment.

Qualifications:

•	Highly organized, this person typically has 2-3 years journalism or communications experience in an action-sports related field and the ability to balance conflicting priorities and demands.

•	Has fundamental competence in writing, editing, fact checking and reporting and a good understanding of web researching.

•	Is a good communicator and has a friendly, interactive disposition and appreciation of action sports’ culture; understands the tastes of ESPN.com/Action’s viewers.

•	Is technically savvy and a fast learner: has a basic understanding of HTML and related web-authoring tools and software, Photoshop, FTP servers, PC and Mac operating systems.

•	Undergraduate degree or higher in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred.
