A college degree was once a sure path to career success. But the globalized economy, technological advances, and overwhelming student debt force many to question its value. Where do we invest our money, time, and effort with so much at stake, and yet so much knowledge freely available? As public funding falters, higher education seems as endangered as mass media and factory jobs. To assure a vibrant future, the Pacific Northwest must reinvent this wellspring of innovation that once so ably met our needs. This April, Four Peaks powered by the Communication Leadership program, calls on us all to boldly re-imagine higher education, moving away from an industrialized, hierarchical model to one more steeped in collaborative leadership. “Hacking Edu: From Tower to Town Square” will host events throughout the month to map a community-sourced response to this issue of deep concern and solicit commitment to pursuing these new ideas in the months to follow.
